Harley Davidson, Inc have announced today that Erik Buell will be leaving the company to set up Erik Buell Racing, a motorcycle race shop based in East Troy, Wisconsin following Harley-Davidson's decision to discontinue production of the Buell motorcycle range.
Erik Buell Racing will supply race-use-only Buell motorcycle parts and race preparation services for engines and motorcycles, and build and sell of Buell® 1125R-based race-use-only motorcycles under license from Harley-Davidson, and provide technical support to racers of Buell motorcycles.
Shock news, yesterday Harley-davidson Inc announced it will be discontinuing the Buell product line and will concentrate its efforts on the Harley-Davidson brand.
Apparently a limited number of new Buell motorcycles remain available for sale through authorized dealerships and production will wind down by October 30. Harley-Davidson will provide replacement parts and service through dealerships and that warranty coverage will continue as normal for Buell motorcycles.
So a sad day for all those at Buell and us in the motorcycle community at large with the loss of such an iconic motorcycle brand.
Buell will surely be missed by the many of us who of have ridden Erik Buell's amazing machines.
You an watch Erik Buell's personal video message on the closure, by clicking on the YouTube Video above.
Buell have produced the 1125RR version of their 1125 sports bike to give privateer racers a turn-key machine to compete in the American Superbike class in AMA Pro Racing.
The Buell 1125RR has a modified Helicon 1125cc (103mm bore x 67.5mm stroke) liquid-cooled 72-degree V-Twin engine. Power increases come from various components including a larger airbox and intake manifold, revised valves and camshafts, a higher compression ratio, titanium exhaust system and other weight-reduced components.
Harley-Davidson and Buell have announced today that they will not be exhibiting at the 2009 International Motorcycle and Scooter Show at the Birmingham NEC later this year. This comes after Honda advised it would not be exhibiting at the show earlier this year.
Well personally this is a great shame for all UK motorcyclists, three major motorcycle marques won't now be at the show. It makes you wonder who's next to pull out and quite bizarre when the show is run by the Motor Cycle Industry Assocation whom these maufacturers support!
It means we could be left only with the MCN London Motorcycle Show as the major national motorcycle show he way things are going!!!
Further to my blog post below, whilst Buell have made this video available to watch via their website www.buell.com/extreme, sadly they have not made it available from their site to share on other websites. But MCN seem to have got a copy which is posted on YouTube, so here its is for you all to enjoy and watch Craig Jones setting an amazing new world record of 148mph for a motorcycle on ice.
This week Buell announced their 2009 model line-up including the liquid-cooled Buell 1125CR Streetfighter for 2009, you can read all the details here.
But even better we've got some pics from Buell of some of the 2009 models for you to see until they are in Buell dealers to view in the flesh. 2009 Buell XB12XT
